Devyn Moore

Devyn was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Saint Louis University in Missouri for undergraduate and graduate school, where she received her doctorate in PT. She then completed a sports residency program out of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where she spent a year working with the Pittsburgh Steelers and began her training on concussion rehabilitation. After receiving her board certification as a sports certified specialist, the outdoor life and family brought her to Colorado where she worked with the U.S Army at Fort Carson prior to moving to the Vail Valley. She continues to be passionate on treating patients post-concussion and dizziness related disorders. She enjoys skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and camping in her free time.

Karen Schleper

Karen was born and raised in Minnesota and completed her undergraduate degree in biology at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. Prior to moving to Colorado to complete her doctorate of physical therapy at Regis University, Karen worked in the running industry for five years. Karen is currently working towards a sports specialist certification and is a member of the Brain and Balance Care team. Outside of the clinic, Karen enjoys all the outdoor activities available in the Vail Valley, including trail running, Nordic skiing and hiking.

Meghan joined the Howard Head team in 2007 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in health studies and a master’s in physical therapy. Meghan became a sport certified specialist in 2009 and a performance enhancement specialist in 2010. She has focused on the treatment of lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders with an emphasis on the hip and knee. She specializes in orthopaedics and sports medicine and has treated a wide range of athletes from the recreational to professional level.

Nate completed his undergraduate degree in sports medicine and pre physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. After spending 4 years in cold north central Pennsylvania, he pursued his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of St Augustine for health sciences in warm and sunny, St Augustine, Florida. After graduating and working a travel physical therapy position in Canon City, Colorado, Nate began as a sports physical therapy resident at Howard Head Sports Medicine. He thoroughly enjoys working with athletes of all ranges, from the weekend warrior to professionals. His career goals are to open his own physical therapy practice in conjuction with other medical wellness professionals to provide an extremely balanced approach to patient health. He enjoys cycling, strength training, hiking and exploring beautiful Colorado!

Arianne Simmons

Arianne is originally from New Jersey, and attended Ithaca College in New York for both undergraduate and Doctorate of Physical Therapy degrees. She moved to Colorado in 2013 to begin her PT career at a trauma hospital, specializing in post-operative and critical care. Having recovered through many sport injuries of her own, she enjoys working with patients towards getting back to the sports and activities they love. Arianne loves living in the Vail Valley and is always spending free time outside - skiing, cycling, mountain biking or hiking.

Sonya Garrison

Sonya grew up in Atlanta, TX and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville in 2011. She then moved to Dallas, TX to attend the University Texas Southwestern Medical Center and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014. Upon graduation, she remained at UTSW for her Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency, rotating through general orthopedic, chronic pain, and sports settings 2015-2016. Late fall 2016, Sonya left Texas to join the Howard Head Sports Medicine team. She is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist as recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association and is involved within the APTA to continue to further the PT profession. Sonya enjoys working with a variety of ages, athletic levels, and orthopedic injuries with a special interest in cyclists and triathletes.

Helen is a qualified sport and exercise scientist and physiotherapist. She graduated from Sheffield Hallam University then Cardiff University in Wales. She has over eight years experience working in the health industry, both in the UK and the USA. She worked for the National Health Service in England for three years, specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. She also worked as a sports physiotherapist for Lincoln Rugby Club and was an integral part of the medical team for the Royal Navy Cricket Team. Her interest in sports physiotherapy led her to pursue a master's in sport and exercise medicine.

Pamela Goldstein

Pamela was born and raised in Maryland. In 2008 she received her bachelors degree in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado, where she was also a member of the university snowboard team. Pamela then moved to Breckenridge to snowboard and work as an Emergency Medical Technician treating dozens of orthopedic injuries. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Minnesota in 2015. Following graduation, Pamela practiced at an outpatient clinic in Minnesota specializing in sport and spinal rehabilitation. With a passion for orthopedic and sport rehabilitation, she enjoys treating athletes of all ranges. Pamela loves being a physical therapist because she gets to educate and empower people to decrease pain while optimizing their functional performance every day. In her free time Pamela loves the outdoors and enjoys staying active while participating in yoga, road cycling, hiking, and snowboarding.

Mary Ellen is the Director of Operations for Howard Head Sports Medicine’s ten clinic locations across Eagle and Summit Counties. She is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in both Sports and Orthopedics by the American Physical Therapy Association and in Pilates Rehabilitation through STOTT PILATES®. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Calvin College, and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Western Health Care Alliance, and American College of Healthcare Executives. In her free time, Mary Ellen enjoys skiing, golfing and hiking.

Laurie completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her master’s in physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She is the team leader for Dr. LaPrade of The Steadman Clinic and specializes in complex knee injuries. She also works closely with hip arthroscopy patients of Dr. Phillippon of The Steadman Clinic.

Paul Westgard

Paul is originally from North Dakota and earned his bachelor degree from North Dakota State University. He completed his master of physical therapy degree and his doctor of physical therapy degree from the University of Colorado. Paul is board certified in both orthopaedic and sports physical therapy in addition to being a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He has special interest in the rehabilitation of post-surgical shoulder, elbow, and knee injuries and has extensive experience in treating a wide array of orthopedic and sports related injuries in athletes of all ages including collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes from the MLB, NFL, US Ski and Snowboard Association, and Formula 1. In addition, Paul has co-authored an article on rehabilitation following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and a book chapter on rehabilitation following acute shoulder dislocation.

Nico serves on the Executive Leadership Team of the Vail Health and leads both Howard Head Sports Medicine and the Vail Health Total Joint service line. Howard Head Sports Medicine is a premier therapy group that partners with some of the countries most celebrated orthopedic surgeons and is the Official Medical Provider for the US Ski Team and USA Climbing. Howard Head serves Eagle, Summit, and the surrounding counties, as well as visitors and athletes from around the world who trust Vail as a center of orthopedic excellence. He is also the founder of the SafeFit® Wellness Program, which has provided innovative solutions for keeping ski resort’s active workforces healthy in Colorado, Utah, and California. He holds an undergraduate degree from Emory University, a Master’s degree in physical therapy from Georgia State University, and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Eagle County Total Health Alliance, and American College of Healthcare Executives and also serves on boards for both the Colorado Association of Healthcare Executives and the Western Healthcare Alliance.

Michael completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Quinnipiac University and brings 7 years of experience to the Howard Head Sports Medicine Team. He developed an early interest in physical therapy as a result of an athletic injury at which time he established his goal to become a physical therapist. He has a profound interest in rehabilitation of all athletes to their respective arena and has a special interest in skiers, cyclists, throwing athletes, and golfers. When Michael isn’t in the clinic you can find him mountain biking, skiing, surfing, golfing, or playing the drums.

Ana Robinson

Born a proud Minnesotan, Ana attended undergraduate and graduate school at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN earning her masters in physical therapy. Her interest in sports medicine brought her to Vail, where she started her career at Howard Head Sports Medicine in 2006. Ana completed her orthopaedic residency and earned her transitional doctor of physical therapy degree at Regis University. As an orthopaedic specialist, Ana works closely with physicians and surgeons with an emphasis in lower extremity injuries and the foot and ankle. She has presented and published on the topic "return to sport" considerations for foot and ankle both locally and nationally. Ana has developed a great working relationship with the US Cross Country National Team. She traveled with them to the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in 2014 and the World Championships in Falun Sweden in 2015.

Brooke hails from the great state of North Dakota. She completed her undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University—Moorhead, and moved to Colorado shortly after, where she spent 5 years whitewater rafting and skiing prior to returning to the Dakotas to attend graduate school. Brooke obtained her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The University of South Dakota and returned to Colorado to work at Howard Head Sports Medicine in 2010. Brooke received her board certification in orthopaedics in 2015 and treats a variety of orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries, specializing in shoulder pathology. She has lectured both nationally and locally and has published articles regarding shoulder rehabilitation. Brooke enjoys helping patients of all ages and abilities get back to whatever they love to do. An avid mountain biker, gym rat, skier and paddler, Brooke loves living, playing and working in the Vail Valley.

Rachel Rourke

Rachel grew up in Michigan, where from a fairly young age; knew she was interested in helping people. Through personal experiences helping family members and experiencing injuries of her own, she dealt with getting care first hand. That led her to consider physical therapy as my own career. Rachel loved the idea of being able to provide someone with the knowledge and tools to allow increased independence and improved quality of life. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Dayton, receiving her bachelor’s in exercise science and pre-physical therapy. Rachel pursued her doctorate at Temple University, choosing to do clinical internships throughout the country: St. Louis, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Oklahoma and then moved to Colorado after graduation, drawn to the beauty and activities the mountain life provided. Rachel is a graduate of the Howard Head Sports Physical Therapy Residency program.

Kathy Gwin

Kathy Gwin received her undergraduate degree in fitness management from the University of Delaware while playing Division I Volleyball. She spent a year as a personal trainer before returning for her master's degree in physical therapy in 1998. She has been practicing outpatient orthopedic physical therapy in the Vail Valley for 19 years. She is certified in Pilates, yoga, and trigger point dry needling. She specializes in neck/back pain, headaches, and chronic pain management. She previously worked at Howard Head from 2000 to 2012 gaining experience in post-operative care of knee, hip, shoulder, and spine patients. Kathy loves living in East Vail with her two daughters. They enjoy skiing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and mountain biking. Kathy enjoys working with all people of all ages and backgrounds.

A Colorado native, Matt grew up in Pagosa Springs, CO, spending winters learning to ski at Wolf Creek. Matt completed his undergraduate degree at Colorado State University and earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and joined Howard Head Sports Medicine in 2007. Matt is a Residency trained Sports Physical Therapy Specialist that has worked extensively with the U.S. Women’s Alpine Ski Team as a team PT and has traveled the world taking care of our US Women’s Alpine Skiing Olympic Team. He specializes in ski and snowboard injury rehabilitation, ACL rehabilitation, golf injury rehabilitation, injury assessment as well as injury risk reduction techniques. Matt has lectured nationally and locally on topics related to knee injuries, as well as published literature related to pathology of the knee.
