Joe Losurdo is the Clinical Director of SPEAR’s Upper East Side location. Joe earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University. Prior to attending Temple, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a double-major in Biology and Psychology from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY. Joe’s clinical experience ranges from working with college and professional athletes to pediatric and geriatric populations in outpatient orthopedic settings. Joe is committed to maximizing his patients’ rehabilitation by utilizing a “whole person” approach and believes nonsurgical management of musculoskeletal pathologies is key in helping his patients return to a healthy, fast-paced NYC lifestyle. By combining manual therapy skills, injury prevention and current evidence-based research, Joe’s patients can expect to receive the care that will allow them to achieve their functional goals. Growing up in Syracuse, NY, Joe competed in numerous sports including football, lacrosse, and basketball. With his competitive playing days behind him, he has taken up running and now has one full marathon and several half marathons under his belt. When he’s not cheering on the New York Giants and the Syracuse Orange, Joe enjoys playing golf, traveling, and spending weekends with family and friends at the beaches of Breezy Point, NY.

Marissa Speno, PT, DPT, OCS

Marissa earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy with honors from Ithaca College where she attended an accelerated six year program, minoring in Sports and Exercise Psychology. Marissa has interests in treating sports-related injuries, spinal dysfunction, post-operative diagnoses and chronic pain. She practices utilizing a “total body approach” while incorporating the most current research and honoring each patient’s unique goals. Marissa is certified in the Functional Movement Screen, Selective Functional Movement Assessment, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization and is currently working towards an advanced certification through the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. She is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. In addition to clinical practice, Marissa also coordinates student affiliations company-wide, mentors students, and teaches in-house clinical education workshops. Marissa hails from Upstate New York and currently resides in Harlem. In her spare time, she can be found enjoying the great outdoors, practicing yoga, cooking, traveling and eating her way around the city.

Leon received his Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the University of Rochester and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. He was initially on a pre-medical track and had a change of heart his junior year, after finding his calling in physical therapy while working as an intern at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in his hometown of White Plains, NY. Leon is also a TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) certified expert, which gives him insight into golf-related injuries and swing analysis. Following his training at the University of Pittsburgh, Leon embarked on traveling assignments for the past 3 years, working in New York, Connecticut, and North Carolina, experiencing both outpatient and inpatient aspects of Physical Therapy. Having been born in China, raised in Canada, and educated in America, Leon is well-versed in diversity and welcomes it in his clinical practice. In his free time, Leon enjoys playing golf, soccer, and exercise. Being familiar with recurrent low back pain since high school, Leon is keen on prevention of low back injuries with all these activities. On the leisure end, Leon is fond of experiencing different foods, and attempting to recreate recipes.

Lauren earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Delaware. She also received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Disabilities Studies from the University of Delaware, graduating magna cum laude. Lauren has experience treating a diverse patient population in outpatient clinics, where she enjoys seeing a broad spectrum of orthopedic injuries. Lauren’s interest in physical therapy is rooted in her lifelong love of sports and outdoor activities. After volunteering in a PT clinic during her undergraduate years, she quickly realized physical therapy was the perfect career path for her. She has a passion for using her knowledge of the human body, exercise, and manual skills to help patients reach their goals and improve their quality of life. Lauren enjoys keeping up to date with the ever evolving field of physical therapy to bring the best treatments to her patients. Lauren grew up in Northern New Jersey and is excited to have NYC as her new home. In her spare time, she enjoys the company of her family and friends. She loves staying active with hobbies such as running, swimming, hiking, snowboarding, and scuba diving. She is always looking for a new adventure and is excited to explore all of what NYC has to offer.

Odalisse earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University. She also studied Nutrition Science and Biology at Syracuse University, and earned a certificate in Physiotherapy Management in Spinal Cord Injuries. While at Stony Brook, she completed clinical rotations in outpatient orthopedics, working with individuals with a variety of sport and non-sport related injuries. She has gained experience working with pediatric patients with neurological and developmental delay difficulties. Her interest in growth and development has allowed her to better apply her knowledge and skills to the adult population as well. Along with working on her professional skills, Odalisse has a passion for giving back to her community, participating in several service initiatives. She has volunteered for the NYC marathon, helping attend to injured runners, as well as a mentor and coach to children at risk for cardiovascular disease, creating wellness programs to help optimize their health. One of her biggest accomplishments was traveling to Ecuador and providing physical therapy services to those in need. Outside of the clinic, Odalisse’s hobbies include, traveling, running, yoga, bike riding and any outdoor activities.

Josh earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. Prior to receiving his Doctorate, Josh obtained his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Manhattan College, where he graduated with honors. During his studies at Manhattan College, Joshua conducted research on blood flow restriction training, and was invited to present his findings at the American College of Sports Medicine. Throughout his clinical rotations, Josh gained extensive experience in orthopedic, geriatric, and sports rehabilitation. While completing his clinical rotations at Hospital for Special Surgery, Josh gained extensive training on joint replacements, spinal surgeries, and various orthopedic surgical treatments. Having been a high school track and field athlete, Josh is very passionate in gaining experience in sports rehabilitation for runners and strength athletes. Josh completed his last rotation at a clinic specializing in optimizing runner’s performance and rehabilitation of running related injuries. Josh enjoys working with patients of all backgrounds and conditions, including geriatrics and post-operative, and help them achieve their goals. When he is not in the clinic, Josh enjoys strength training, running, hiking, and photography. Josh is currently planning to pursue his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification and start Olympic weightlifting as a personal hobby.
