Fiona McMahon

PT, DPT

BIO

Fiona earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her clinical studies included training at New York University Hospital for Joint Disease, Park North Physical Therapy and STAR Physical Therapy. Her training in pelvic health began during her doctoral program where she completed the pediatric specialty track and continued through Beyond Basics Physical Therapy and the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Health Rehabilitation Institute. She has also received advanced manual therapy training through the Institute of Physical Art. As the voice of the Beyond Basics’ Blog, beyondbasicsptblog, Fiona has shed much-needed light on the often misdiagnosed and misunderstood world of pelvic health. Fiona has also contributed to Sexology International in her and co-authored a chapter on physical therapy treatment of pelvic pain for the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health due out soon.

Amy Stein

Premier physical therapist, founder, and pioneer – Amy is at the forefront of treating pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic pain, specializing in functional manual therapy for all people, including children. In addition to being the founder of Beyond Basics, Amy has served as the President – and is currently on the advisory board – of the International Pelvic Pain Society. Amy also lectures internationally, has been featured in documentaries, and interviewed on critically-acclaimed TV shows like Dr. Oz, ABC’s 20/20, and Good Morning La La Land. As an award-winning author, Amy has written books on pelvic pain (Heal Pelvic Pain) and endometriosis (Beating Endo: How to reclaim your life from Endometriosis) and created a video on pelvic pain (Healing Pelvic Pain and Abdominal Pain).

Mary Bogle

PT, DPT

BIO

Mary is passionate about promoting efficient movement, good health and robust exercise across every age level. She is also very passionate about working with children who have coordination and movement issues. After a career in theater, dance, and childhood education, Mary went back to school to study physical therapy. Now, Mary has extensive training and experience with athletes and children, and in pelvic floor health. She became interested in pelvic floor health after realizing that it was needed as an integral component of treating the entire body. Currently she also works with children as a physical therapist for the Department of Education. Mary is a lifelong runner and has participated in countless races, including several triathlons and the NYC and Boston marathons. She continues to run and swim and believes in living and performing to the fullest. During her downtime, her guilty pleasure is watching the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, New York City or anywhere else.

Kathryn Ahuja

Kathryn was inspired to study pelvic health because of the clear mind-body connection of so many pelvic floor disorders. She is trained in post-natal fitness and has a special interest in dancers, singers, and other performing artists. Even though both Kathryn’s mother and father have worked in the physical therapy for over 30 years, she came to physical therapy as a second career. After receiving her BFA in Theatre from NYU, Kathryn worked as a dancer and actress in New York and Las Vegas. In that time, she became a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher which sparked her interest in how movement and breath can help the body to heal. She continued her education in pelvic rehabilitation, studying treatment for both women and men, manual therapy, and visceral mobilization. She also received training in post-natal fitness techniques with Jessie Mundell.

Devon Dinegar

When Devon learned about the intricacies and foundational necessity of the pelvic floor, she was captivated. During her clinical rotation in a pelvic health clinic, Devon’s passion for treating patients with pelvic floor dysfunction grew stronger, especially as it was clear this is an underserved and underrepresented population. Topics of pelvic floor dysfunction are often intimate and even taboo in our society. Devon recognizes this and is able to provide a safe, comfortable space in which open communication and active listening flourishes. This allows for patients to share their story and together, come up with an optimal and effective plan of care to accomplish each patient’s goals. Devon strives to teach all of her patients the tools they need to independently manage their symptoms, maintain their fitness, and prevent future injuries. She believes this can be accomplished through effective education, communication, and a personalized approach to each patient’s needs and goals.

Carson Judkins

Carson draws on her background as a yoga and meditation teacher, personal trainer, and group fitness instructor, as well as her training in Pilates and background working in multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide comprehensive, individualized, holistic treatment of the whole self. She loves to integrate principles of postural alignment, breathwork, and mindful movement gleaned from her yoga practice and training into her practice as a physical therapist to help patients foster deeper connection and balance to the entire body, as well as the mind and spirit. Carson’s mission is to provide a safe, open space to guide her patients to a greater understanding and awareness of their bodies and movement patterns, and to empower them with the tools they need to live a continually healthier and happier life and feel at home in their bodies.

Sonali Patel

Sonali aims to provide individualized, evidence-based care to help people comfortably navigate through their lives. She enjoys working with people of all ages to help them achieve their personal goals. She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Columbia University, where she completed her advanced track in orthopedics. During her time at Columbia, Sonali began her continued education in pelvic health through the Herman and Wallace Institute. Since then, she has completed advanced courses in manual therapy & pelvic health. She has also received her mat-based pilates teaching certification to better instruct patients through pilates-based physical therapy interventions when indicated. Sonali developed a special appreciation for treating patients with pelvic health dysfunction as these conditions oftentime disrupt the normalcy of their everyday functioning. She finds it extremely rewarding to be able to help people regain control over vital functions of life.

Alexandra Siegrist

PT, DPT

Alexandra's experience as a United States Air Force veteran gave her a strong desire to advocate for women veterans, and led to her interest in pelvic floor and women's health. She believes a holistic approach is important to restoring pelvic health and incorporates the principles of strength and conditioning, along with manual therapy, to enhance health and movement for all of her patients. During her Doctoral studies at Hunter College, Alexandra received training in Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Therapy through the American Academy of Physical Therapy. She was also selected to intern at Beyond Basics during her final year of graduate school, and returned to continue her training post-graduation.

Iris Platt

PT, DPT

BIO

Iris believes in clinical practice grounded in interdisciplinary, individualized, and evidence-informed care that places patient safety and comfort first. Prior to acquiring her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University, she earned her Masters, where she investigated the neuroscience of movement in cognitive disorders and the role of emotion in motor learning. Her clinical practice is informed by her professional experience as a dancer, personal trainer, and yoga instructor, as well as her personal practices in martial arts (karate, boxing, and BJJ) and strength training. Iris is also a research advisor and collaborator with Partnering Lab, that investigates ethics of human interaction through movement and dance. This research directly influences how she relates to her patients by placing emphasis on the development of trust and effective communication in order to build meaningful connections and promote healing.
