Donald Zerio, PT, DPT

Donald Zerio received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The University of St Augustine in Miami, Florida. Don earned his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Sport Nutrition from University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut. He grew up playing various sports including swimming, diving, and baseball. Don developed a passion for resistance training and enjoys rehabilitating gym and sports-related injuries, as well as tendon pathologies and post-surgical cases. He uses his experience as a personal trainer to develop unique and individualized exercise programs for his patients. Don assisted in starting SPEAR’s Transitional Care service and was originally a rehab technician at the 84th Street and 57th Street locations prior to attending physical therapy school. In his free time, Don enjoys strength training, hiking, golfing, and cooking. He loves playing all types of intramural sports, his favorite position being the center fielder for his Central Park Softball team, Slug Lyfe.

Alexis Lyons, PT, DPT

Alexis earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a focus in Movement Science from her home state, Pennsylvania, from Penn State University. Prior to working at SPEAR, Alexis worked in a sub-acute rehab treating patients with a variety of diagnoses, including post-op joint replacements and ligament repairs, strokes, amputations, and those affected by Covid-19. She also recently completed her Champion-Performance Specialist (C-PS) certification to improve the quality of care she provides to patients by restoring, optimizing, enhancing, and maintaining their performance.

Macauley O'Connor, PT, DPT

Macauley completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Boston University. During his studies, Macauley worked for two years at Boston University’s Neuromotor Recovery Laboratory, focusing on the application of emerging technology to a neurological patient population. The culmination of this work was a poster presentation at the Combined Sections Meeting 2020 in Denver, CO. Before attending graduate school, Macauley studied Psychology and Biology at Ohio Wesleyan University. Macauley worked with a diverse population of patients with a wide variety of orthopedic and neurologic diagnoses, primarily in the outpatient setting. During his time in the clinic, Macauley realized his passion for working with patients with both chronic neurological and acute orthopedic injuries. Macauley’s primary focus has always been on adapting patients’ environments to serve them better, helping people return to work, sport, and their lives.

Michelle Sabogal, PT, DPT

Michelle received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences after obtaining her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Mount St. Mary College. During her undergraduate studies, Michelle was a member of the women’s soccer team and volunteered with multiple groups such as Aging Youth Nursing Home.  Michelle began as a rehabilitation technician at SPEAR’s 57th St. location prior to attending graduate school. She was promoted to Director of Technician Operations, where she oversaw daily activities for her rehabilitation technician team. Michelle also attended companywide meetings to assist with housekeeping and leadership opportunities. Collaborating with SPEAR, Michelle assisted in creating events to help give aspiring physical therapists access to information and guidance as they prepared to apply to their dream schools.  Growing up as an athlete, Michelle took an interest in physical therapy at a young age from being a patient herself. Having gone through the experience herself, Michelle understands the physical and mental challenges that come with an injury. Michelle utilizes her clinical experience in orthopedics, post-operative injuries, sports rehabilitation, and neuro-rehabilitation to tailor exercises specifically to her patients and help them reach their goals!   In her spare time, Michelle stays enjoys playing in co-ed adult soccer leagues, hiking, traveling, dog watching, and spending time with her family and friends. 

Ashley Rozek, PT, DPT, CSCS

Ashley earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York University and her Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition, Food and Exercise from Virginia Tech. Her clinical experience includes orthopedics, sports rehabilitation and neuro-rehabilitation. Ashley is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and an active member of the APTA. Since joining the SPEAR team, Ashley has gotten more involved with patients with pelvic and low back pain and has recently started teaching Pelvicore classes. During her time at Virginia Tech, Ashley competed and was the president of the university’s competitive cheerleading team. She was also an active member of a Greek organization, Relay for Life and the Physical Therapy Club. Ashley attributes her initial interest in physical therapy from being a patient herself after suffering multiple knee and ankle injuries. Ashley is passionate about working with and helping her patients get back to doing what they love. Her goal is to help her patients find their own strength, mobility, and confidence through physical therapy. Raised right outside of Washington D.C., Ashley has enjoyed adapting to life in New York City and spends her time exploring new neighborhoods and discovering all the many things the city has to offer.
